EURYDICE GIVES CONTEMPORARY TWIST ON CLASSIC LOVE STORY

FORT WORTH, TX—Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA) brings a luminous retelling of the classical Orpheus myth to the stage February 20-21 in its visually stunning production of the emotional tale Eurydice, by celebrated playwright Sarah Ruhl. Ruhl’s version reimagines the story through the eyes of its heroine, Eurydice. After dying on her wedding day, she journeys to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and tries to remember her lost love, Orpheus. With contemporary characters, clever plot twists and breathtaking visual effects including a raining elevator and flowing water on stage, the audience will experience a fresh look at this timeless love story.

FWAFA’s production is a true ensemble, integrating creative work by students outside the theater department. It features an original score composed by senior Carson Salter, and performed by an ensemble of six student musicians. Costumes were created by the art department’s printmaking class and student designers, and the sets collaboratively designed by technical theater students. This production is sure to excite, entertain and enchant audiences while making them think about relationships, choices, love, life and death.

Eurydice is part of the 2014-2015 Performing Arts Series which features FWAFA talent often seen in theaters, dance companies and music ensembles throughout the Metroplex. Performances of Eurydice take place at 7 PM on February 20 and 21 at the Mary D. & F. Howard Walsh Fine Arts Center located at 3901 S. Hulen St. Tickets are $13 for adults and $5 for students in advance, and $15 for adults and $7 for students at the door. Tickets are available online at www.FWAFA.org/tickets.
